4-H at Dirigo Ranch
Age Group
This club is open to various age groups, and will focus on seasonal farming and homesteading. Given a wide range of age groups, we will work together to help one another, and make the content interesting for all.
This is an introduction to 4-H and activities are created with younger children in mind. All participants may gain experiences in raising/interacting with livestock, but the projects are not going to be required for sale/show at local agricultural fairs at the end of the 4H year.
What is 4-H?
"4‑H is delivered by Cooperative Extension—a community of more than 100 public universities across the nation that provides experiences where young people learn by doing. For more than 100 years, 4‑H has welcomed young people of all beliefs and backgrounds, giving kids a voice to express who they are and how they make their lives and communities better."
What We'll Do
In our 4-H program, we hope to utilize the resources available at our Feed & Seed store, the woodlands around us, and our farm, for an enriching experience for our club members. We hope to pick a new focus each season and complete activities relative to the season, that are enjoyable and within reach for young children. Activities may include but are not limited to identifying plants and bugs on hikes, collecting eggs, learning about animal feeds, planting gardens, meeting various livestock, crafts, and cooking together.
Meeting frequency is once a month (for now), on Tuesday nights at 5:30pm starting in March 2023. A parent or guardian MUST be in attendance for the entire meeting. Pizza will be provided, but other snacks are welcome.
Our meetings will take place at the Feed & Seed but we will head over to the ranch as the weather improves. Please bring a camp chair or blanket to sit on.
